Torment 1-12 in Diablo 4: An U4GM Guide

Once your character hits level 70, the real Diablo 4 climb begins. The Pit sets the pace: clearing Pit 10 opens Torment 1, then higher tiers unlock at regular intervals, with the gaps widening after Torment 5. Along the way, you'll gain access to Set Charms at Torment 3, Greater Lair Keys at Torment 6, Unique Charms at Torment 8, and Mythic Horadric Seals at Torment 10. Keep an eye on the Season Journey too, since its rewards can supply the materials you need when your stash is running low. A few useful D4 items can also smooth out those awkward early upgrades.

Spend Paragon Points for Immediate Power

Early Paragon choices matter more than many players expect. It's tempting to rush straight towards every Glyph socket, but that route often leaves a character feeling fragile. Instead, take the Legendary Nodes on your boards first, then collect useful Rare and Magic Nodes on the way. Life, armour, resistance, and class-specific bonuses can make a bigger difference right now than an under-levelled Glyph. You'll feel the change quickly: monsters hit less harshly, and your build has more room to recover when a run goes sideways. Glyphs become far more valuable once you've got the resources to level them properly.

Build Around the Gear You Actually Have

A strong meta build can make the journey easier, but you don't need to abandon a playstyle you enjoy. What matters is that your skills, aspects, and damage bonuses point in the same direction. During Torments 1 through 5, aim to unlock around three Legendary Nodes and keep your War Plans active for extra experience. Use this stage to build a stable character rather than chasing perfect rolls. Set Charms begin appearing at Torment 3, so pick them up and take useful ones to the Horadric Cube for rerolling. One good charm can solve a damage gap that several ordinary upgrades won't fix.

Turn Crafting into Your Main Upgrade Tool

From Torment 6 onwards, crafting becomes much more important. Save strong Ancestral gloves, rings, and amulets instead of selling them straight away. Place a suitable item in the Horadric Cube, add an Aggressive Tuning Prism, and roll the affixes your build needs. It's random, so don't burn every resource on one attempt. Run Tributes of Ingenuity with the appropriate Bargain when your Prism supply starts to disappear. At this stage, also level your key Glyphs towards 25 and begin opening their sockets. Spread relevant damage multipliers across your equipment rather than stacking one bonus repeatedly.

Polish the Build in Torments 10-12

Torment 10 is where progression becomes more about personal goals than rapidly improving rewards. Finish levelling your Glyphs, refine your Paragon routes, and replace weak rolls one piece at a time. Lair Bosses are especially worth targeting now, since their Unique drops can complete the version of your build you've been working towards. If survival is the problem, don't ignore defensive Rare Nodes or life and resistance rolls while chasing damage. Keep improving through measured upgrades, and consider buy cheap D4 items only when it fills a clear gap in your setup rather than replacing sensible farming and crafting.
